GSRJ Shipyard highly values career development and training. As a new industry in Jamaica, we aim to train a skilled local labour force to deliver the highest quality and productivity. We welcome all candidates interested in skill excellence and being part of an exceptional organizational culture. To achieve this, we have established partnerships with renowned training institutions such as the Caribbean Maritime University (CMU) and the Human Employment and Resources Training Trust/National Service Training Agency (HEART/NSTA) in Jamaica.
In January 2024, GSRJ signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CMU to collaborate on training young Jamaicans for the ship repair industry. Specific training areas include:
- Welding Certification to Classification Society (international) standards
- Floating Dock Operations and Management
- Marine Engine Repair and Maintenance Services
- Retrofitting of Ballast Systems
Additionally, GSRJ recruits from various maritime courses offered at CMU and provides sea-time internships for graduates of the Marine Engineering and Navigation degree courses, including opportunities on our clients’ vessels. If you are a student or graduate from CMU, we encourage you to explore these opportunities.

Our partnership with HEART/NSTA focuses on advanced training courses for welders, pipe fitters, steel fabricators, and engine works. HEART provides selected graduates for advanced training and experience, helping them develop their skills to meet international maritime standards. We encourage HEART graduates to apply for positions at GSRJ and take advantage of these advanced training opportunities. Join GSRJ and be part of an innovative and dynamic team, helping to build a strong future for Jamaica’s ship repair industry.
